it and seems to be a female duct alone. The vepy short spermiducl branches out of its dilated part thus the foriner seems to origihate from Iho uterus. The uterus is a conipIicateJy convolutcd and sacculated organ, except its anterior end near the inosculabon of the spermatheca ducl where it is eylindrical, and so is the vagina as well. The spermatheca is very Large, oval or globular, with a cylindrical and rather thick stein. The niale duct begins, as was said above, with a very short, tubular part (fig. 3 />') entering thc prostata ventrally. This latter is a fleshy, elongate-oval body closely altached to the uterus (in fig. 3. B somewhal removed froni its original position for the sake of making perceptible the spermiduct); the vas deferens is long (iliform, the penis sheath cylindrical. The inale and female genital orifices are lying close side by side in a shallow groove forming a very short atrium gcnilale. The retractor muscle of the penis is long and stout, attached to it at ils distal end. The retractor muscle of the right ommatophore runs between Ihe |)enis and the vagina. As is shown by the anatomy of the reproductive organs this species is nearly related to Succinea Vfeifferi ROSSMAESSLEB, the genitalia of whioh deviate but slightly from those of Suec. qroenlandica. The organs in question are differing: 1° in the shape of the penis, that of Succ. Pfeifferi being eoinparatively shorter and more clubshaped, i e. becoming thicker towards its distal end., and 2° on the spermoviduet of Suec. Pfeifferi there is clearly distinguishable a male part, like in Succ. putris. Otherwise no noteworthy differences exist betwecn them. On tbe other band Succ. putris is very easily and sharply distiiiguishable anatomically from both Succ. Pfeifferi and. groenlandica. The anatomy of the genital apparatus of Suec. putris was described in detail by RIEPER 34 ), and our own dissections corroborate the results of thoso of this author. The main difierences are as follows : 1° Succ. putris possesses a very long cylindrical penis, 2° its spermatheca is reletively small with a Jong and slender stem. 3° its prostata is relatively much smaller, 4° its receptaculuin soininis. on the contrary, is a more developed, globular organ. That Suce. Pfciffcri and groenlandiea are closely related to each other, is shown also by the structure of the jaw, that of Suce. groenlandica (fig. 3 C), agreeing with that of Succ. Pfeifferi as is seen when compared fig. 3 C), e. g., with HAZAY'S 85 ) figures. Radula of the usual type of Sueeinea. Dental formula aboul : 1 9 ~ 10 20—23 3 + 2 + 3-4 84 ) Annales Soc. Roy.
