176 Di j. v. madarász top of head dark brown ; cheeks, side of face, round the eyes and ear­coverts brownish black ; a very distinct eyebrow from the base of the nostril and throat white ; breast and sides of body buff ; flanks streaked with blackish-brown ; centre of abdomen and under tail-coverts creamy white with dusky centre on the feathers of the latter ; wing- and tail­feathers dark brown edged with fulvous ; median and greater coverts tipped with ashy-white. C ? & Monda, Sib., May 25. 17. Montifringilla cognata, n. sp. (Plate IV. fig. 2—3.) — Similar to M. aretoa, PALL., but differs chiefly by its rosy-red shade above and below. Adult male: Above and below, chocolate brown (somewhat lighter than in M. ardqa) with a rosy shade; top of head,, ear­coverts and throat dusky brown with perly-grev gloss; front and nasal plumes blackish, with a strong rosy sliacje; eyebrow commencing from above the eye, which backwards abruptly grow wider and uniting into the nape-patch hoary-white- with rosy shade; wing and tail as in M. arcloa: bill and feet blaçk. Totail length 170, wing 110, tail 80, bill 11, tarsus 18, mm. Adtflf female; Similar to female of M., arctoa, but the wi,ng-co^rts are much darker grey; bill and feet black- Total length 160, wing 105, 1 ail 72, bill 10, tarsus 18 mm. I possess two male and one female fr.om the Tunken Mountains, April 23.
