CATALOGUE OF THE CULICIDAE IN THE HUNGARIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM. i'l ; > lobe (Fig. 15. c) ; metanotum nude, black; pleurae brown with flat silvery white scales. Abdomen black, unhanded ; venter silvery white ; apex bristly. Legs uniformly brown, with ochreous sheen in certain lights ; ungues small, equal and simple. Wings with typical brown Culex- scales (Plate IV); the first submarginal cell longer and very slightly narrower than the second posterior cell, its base a little nearer the base of the wing, its stem about one-third the length of the cell, stem of the second posterior about one half the length of the cell ; posterior cross-vein rather more than twice its own length distant from the mid ; the lateral vein-scales are rather long, espe­cially on the basal part of the second and fourth veins. Halteres with testaceous stem and fuscous knob with some pallid scales. Length: 3'5 to 4 mm. Habitat: Paumomu Eiver, New Guinea (LORIA, IX —XII. 1892). Observations: Described from five J's. It is easily identified by the thoracic scales and the black abdomen with silvery venter. It is sub­ject to considerable variation in size and in apparently the relative length of the palpi and proboscis, also in the relative distance of the posterior cross-vein and mid cross-vein.
