TERÉZ GERSZI: Frans Floris' Early Drawings in Budapest
Both works have ten female figures, representing the seven liberal arts as well as the symbolic figures of architecture, sculpture and painting. The movements and arrangement of the figures in the left half of the composition are similar, but those of the figures on the right are considerably different. The groups in the background are also at variance with each other: the drawing includes not only Mars having been disarmed by Prudenzia and Fortezza, but behind them is a group of mounted warriors, just like on the Stockholm sketch and the Bos engraving. Gerszi 1971, cat. no. 88b. Verso: Women with a Man. Inscription on the verso: "Saepta sidonioru(m) ruinatum est/Sidon Phenicia ist serstoret..." Van de Velde 1975, no. P 37, fig. 189.
