TERÉZ GERSZI: Frans Floris' Early Drawings in Budapest

UNKNOWN ENGRAVER AFTER FRANS FLORIS. CHRIST CARRIED INTO HEAVEN BY ANGELS. ENGRAVING for the Ponce picture; however, it seems unlikely that Floris created this work only based on texts, thus it appears more feasible that the model he used no longer exists. There is a drawing on the verso of both Budapest sheets, coming from the same hand that made the depictions on the recto. The verso of Apollo and the Muses shows the half figure of a woman in profile with a characteristically "Florisian" face. On the verso of the other sheet is a drawing of two women holding the body of a dead man, a third female figure in profile carrying a cross on her shoulder, a sketchily drawn fourth woman holding a spear in her hands underneath, and the drawing of a small angel (fig. 8) in the top corner. 25 These same figures
