ÉVA LIPTAY: Éva Liptay "My Face Is (That of) Ra"
I THE FIGURES OF THF UPPER RIGHT REGISTER MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS. BUDAPEST. INV. NO. 51. 2094 THE FIGURES OF EHE UPPER LEFT REGISTER MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS. BUDAPEST. INV. NO. 51. 2094 seems to be drawn from and influenced by various sources —such as figures of gate keepers of the BD 144-145 as well as chthonic creatures of BD 168 and various royal Underworld books, and those of Twenty-first Dynasty versions of the Litany of Ra —incorporating all of them into a single system. In consequence, their functions, which obviously involve both apotropaic characters and setting the patterns for the transition into a divine being (i.e. into chthonic or Osirian forms of Ra, the great god with multiple faces, names and forms) 14 after death can be interpreted at different levels. Any possible precursors of the figure attributed by a head en face inside a sun disc must undoubtedly be found in the context of the New Kingdom royal Underworld books.
