The objective of the present study is to complement our knowledge on the art and research of Girolamo Troppa with new attributions, the publication of a hitherto unknown source and some new additions to provenance history. In 1987 the Old Masters' Gallery purchased a large-size landscape with a scene of Adam and his Family, which was first published and linked with the Bacchus and Ariadne in the Gemälde­galerie, Kassel, then figuring under the name of Giacinto Calandrucci, by Agnes Szigethi (fig. I). 10 Following this, Erich Schleier added both w r orks to Troppa's œuvre." Although in his two overly long studies Schleier published not only a handful of paintings, but also numerous drawings in German collections by Troppa, 1- a pen drawing with wash in the Graphische Sammlung of the Museum Kunst Palast, Düsseldorf, under the name of Mat­tia Preti, escaped his attention.
