The painting was sold at auction at the Nagyházi Galéria on 24 May, 2005 under lot number 116 and was SLibsequently restored by Miklós Szentkirályi. It was published by Vilmos Tátrai and identified as a work by Titian painted around 1540 and preserved during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in the picture gallery of the prince of Modena. 1 Next to this painting, which combines a new artistic style with Roman grandezza, was placed another work by Titian, painted some ten years earlier, which completes 13 TITIAN, THE VIRGIN AND CHILD WITH SAINT PAUL.
