Since Rembrandt is one of the most well known artists who ever lived, this presented an opportunity for public collections that could not be missed, even if they had only scant material by the master at their disposal. While the number of Rembrandt's paintings is limited, his etchings are relatively numerous and can be found in many collections. However, an exhibition comprising entirely, or for the most part, Rembrandt's etchings should not be regarded as inferior nor as a mere evocation of his "genuine" œuvre. The master discovered etching for himself while he was still in his twenties, and his graphic work —which in addition to etching and drypoint also included drawing with a pen or chalk —remained an artistic field as equally important as painting but one which also allowed him a diverse type of expression. Therefore, a graphic exhibition is also able to provide an authentic picture of Rembrandt's versatility: the wide scope of the genres he applied himself to, the changes in his focus of interest, and his development through experimenting in genres and techniques. There were, indeed, primarily or exclusively graphic exhibitions among the events in the festive year. The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam displayed all its drawings by Rembrandt in two installments, with the titles "The Storyteller" and "The Observer"; the Koninklijke Musea voor Schone Künsten van België —Het Museum 7 INTERIOR VIEW OF THE EXHIBITION
