ANNUAL REPORT - A 2006. ÉV - VILMOS TÁTRAI: The New Permanent Exhibition of the Italian Collection of the Old Masters' Gallery

made the room, which houses works from the first heyday of Italian painting, attractive. The panelling and showcases lend an elegant frame to the rarities, which are magnificent even in their fragmentary state. Following an idea by Miklós Szentkirályi, Cola Petruccioli's largesize, newly restored fresco from the end of the Trecento, representing the Annunciation, was placed in this small room, in a sunken panel. In that particular room and context the fresco successfully fulfilled the role of the overture, setting the mood for the whole row of rooms of Italian art. When the mounting was completed the work on the multilingual room-guides, which give a short description of all of the works of art, was commenced. By the end of 2007, they will be available in each room. The joint work of the curatorial staff of the Old Masters' Gallery, the general director, the conservators, the interior designers, the technical staff, the lighting designers, the exhibition organizers and designers have created this new permanent exhibition. The re-installation of the permanent exhibition of the Old Masters' Gallery —which included the transport and mounting of the Dutch paintings on the second floor, the de-installation of the exhibition of nineteenth-century art on the ground floor and it being re-linked to the row of halls of the Old Masters' Gallery —is completed for now, and will resume wdth the renovation of the Romanesque wing. On one side the rooms presenting German, Austrian, Flemish and Spanish painting, and on the other side those displaying Italian, French, British and nineteenth-century art are open to the public.
