Numbered floorplan, with Schools indicated by colour In the first cabinet, number 16, we can see the earliest pieces of the collection, among them the Annunciation of a Bohemian painter, which can be dated between 1400 and 1430, and the panel painting, The Nativity, by the Master of Raigem, ca. 1450, as well as other pictures from among the masters working in Vienna and Wiener-Neustadt during the first half of the fifteenth century (e.g., the Master of the Frederick Altarpiece, the Master of the Saint Andrew Altarpiece), some Tyrolean panel paintings, and the Westphalian Madonna in a place of honour. The Holy Family, coming a bit later, associated with the Cologne workshop of the Master of the Saint Bartholomew Altarpiece, forms the transition into the period of the following cabinet, number 15. Works from the second half, as well as the end of the fifteenth century are featured here, among them the rare Saint Paul the Apostle by Ulrich Mair, as well as the Dance of Salome by the Master with the Carnation of Bern and Rueland Frueaufs Annunciation. Hall XI provides a space for the large-scale panel paintings.
