great assets are included the fact that Reynolds' portrait of Admiral Hughes regained its original, vivid palette; that a Bergamasque Madonna from ca. 1510-20, which incorporates also a donor portrait, liberated its fresh green of the cloth of honour from beneath the thick layers of repainting; or that the cleaning of a Portrait of a Lady from the immediate circle of Bronzino - dramatically transforming the overall effect rendered the background visible: a classicising sculpture niche. The catalogue accompanying the exhibition was published by Electa Publishers. The introductory essays were penned by Franco Monetti, Arabella Cifani, Daniela Magnetti and Vittorio Sgarbi. The latter, the art historian, politician and TV-star popular across Italy, lent his name to the entire endeavour, contributing to its popular success. The authors of the catalogue entries were Brigitta Cifka, Zsuzsa Dobos, Eszter Fabry, Annamária Gosztola, István Németh, Éva Nyerges, Ágnes Szigethi, Vilmos Tátrai and Axel Vécsey. Restoration work was carried out under the direction of Miklós Szentkirályi and with the collaboration of Judit Bendel, Erzsébet Béres, Ilona Csík, Ágnes Dicső, Dorottya Gajzágó, Miklós Gyöpös, Katalin T. Hudik, Márta Jankó, Ildikó Jeszeniczky, Zsuzsa Kovács, Gábor Pásztor, Edit Perjés, Tünde B. Réti, Éva Somos and Mária Velekei. On the part of the Palazzo Bricherasio, Giulia Zanasi was the organiser, and the Director of the institution, Daniela Magnetti, the curator of the exhibition. On the part of the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest, the selection of works, elaboration of the exhibition concept, organisation, editing of the catalogue entries and their translation into Italian were carried out by the author of these lines. . VILMOS TÁTRAI CONVENTION XIXTH CONVENTION OF THE INTERNATIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF KEEPERS OF PUBLIC COLLECTIONS OF GRAPHIC ART Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest, 6-11 June 2004 The heads of the world's largest collections of drawings and prints meet every two years in a different country in order to acquaint each other with their scientific findings, problems, short-term and long-term goals, and exhibition policies, as well as to co-ordinate their work and to plan joint projects. This was the first time this conference, held regularly for four decades, took place in Hungary, an event which, in the year of our country's accession to the European Union, was especially timely and important, in the interests of even closer co-operation in the future. The conference attracted more than fifty participants, including a large number of persons who were visiting Hungary for the first time, and hence their reports reflecting positive impressions were highly appreciated.
