27. Sigismondo Coccapani: The Flute Player. Formerly Florence, Galleria Corsini degrees by Caravaggism. As noted above, Gregori (1959), Borea (1970), and Cantelli (1983) confirmed Longhi's 1943 attribution to Coccapani, who effectively has served as a surrogate attribution for a picture deemed close to Fetti but not by him. However, the recent researches of Contini and Acanfora, 16 among others, have significantly reduced the number of works firmly attributable to Coccapani, with the re-attribution especially to Alessandro Rosi (e.g. the Magdalen, Florence, Depositi delle Gallerie Fiorentine), as well as Luciano Borzone, of a significant portion of the corpus.
