SALLAY, DÓRA: A Proposal for a Baptism of Christ-Lunette by Guidoccio Cozzarelli
12. Guidoccio Cozzarelli: Baptism of Christ. Sinalunga, San Bernardino Piero Misciatelli in Rome, 20 is of great interest, as this piece, certainly another fragment, could possibly be a further element of the dismembered lunette. Unfortunately, this work seems untraceable at present. 21 20 Berenson, 1936 (n. 2) p. 137; Berenson, 1968 (n. 1) p. 99. This entry is missing from the 1932 edition (Berenson, 1932 [n. 2] ). 21 The picture is no more in the possession of the descendants of the Misciatelli family in Rome, who could furnish no information in regard to the work. I thank Alessandro Bagnoli, Carl Strehlke and the members of the Misciatelli family for their generous help in trying to locate the painting. Unfortunately no record (photograph, card file, or archival record) survives among Berenson's material at Villa I Tatti, Florence. Van Marie makes no reference to this work in 1937, either, a year after the appearance of the work in Berenson's list (cf. op. cit. [n. 1] p. 384). For the lack of any other evidence for the existence of this piece at the moment, it is perhaps not to be excluded that Berenson's indication is mistaken and refers in fact to the Budapest panel (which is also listed).
