flattened to the desired degree. Now we applied a thin layer of BEVA 371, gelatinous in its consistency when cold, to both the back of the painting and the acrylic-primed cotton lining canvas, using a spatula. Then the muslin and the lining canvas was adhered to each other on a vacuum table, using warming. 29 Once the lining had been succesfully finished, we fixed the painting to the stretcher. With a small alteration, we have made the well-preserved stretcher of the picture suitable for further use. Very slightly curving (1,5 cm high in the middle) wooden additions were applied to both the upper and the lower lath of the stretcher so, that the policarbonate plate fastened over the stretcher, would hoi the canvas slightly bent, giving an impression, similar to that of a wooden panel. 30 The conservation of the ornamental frame was carried out simultaneously with this work. 31 41.
