The Year 2002

a collection of paintings, engravings, illustrated books and drawings, representing the development of the Italian art of drawing almost in its totality. The Esterházy collection was bought by the Hungarian state in 1870, and constitutes the core of the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibition introduced a series of events in the frames of the Hungarian Cultural Season in Italy; its opening ceremony was also attended by the Italian and Hungarian pre­sidents. The curator of the exhibition and, at the same time, the author of the richly docu­mented catalogue (fig. 78), reproducing all the drawings in colour, was Andrea Czére, Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the Museum.
