DÁGI, MARIANNA - SIPOS, ENIKŐ: Report on the Conservation of Coptic Textiles in the Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities (1999-2000)

Comparison of pieces acquired since the publication of László Török's Catalogue with the older pieces of the Collection and with each other also proved fruitful. It turned out that several fragments inventoried under separate numbers may well belong together. In three cases, old and new pieces were involved; in three others, new pieces were identified as related. 75.28.A and 97.64.A (figs. 27-28): the material (wool and linen), the weaving, the colour of the threads and the pattern (on a yellow background an interlaced band woven of dark blue, white and red thread surrounding two frontal male figures holding garlands of flowers in a rectangular frame) all correspond. The two fragments differ as to the size of the ornaments: the length of the rectangles surrounding the figures differs by 0.5 cm, the width of the decorated bands by about 1cm. Fragment 97.64.A is of a somewhat looser weave than fragment 75.28.A (10 warp and 34 weft threads against 10 and 38-40). 27-28. Fragments belonging together. Budapest, Museum of Fine Arts, inv. nos. 75.28.A and 97.64.A
