EVERLING, JÁNOS: Sumerian Texts in the Museum of Fine Arts

SUMERIAN TEXTS IN THE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS In the following pages the opportunity is taken to publish copies, transliterations, translations of all the Sumerian documents of the Museum including the Author's commentaries. 1 They date back to the Ur III Period (21 s ' century B.C). The Museum owns about 30 cuneifonn tablets in various degrees of preservation. Of these 11 are Sumerian administrative and economic documents. Unfortunately there are no written records regarding the origins of these tablets. They were acquired through either gift or purchase and the circumstances of their discovery are unknown. Thanks are extended to Péter Vargyas who brought these tablets to my attention. I am very grateful to the curator of the Collection, István Nagy who has given me the pennission of the publication, and to the staff of the Egyptian Department for their constant assistance during the copying of the tablets.
