VII Southern Transdanubia - VII-2 House from Hidas
VIII VII-2 House, Hidas The Swabian builders of this 19th century house could not have foreseen that they would be forced to leave their home and their country in 1945- They were only allowed to take 1 kg fat, 2 kg meat, 7 kg flour; bread or pastry, 2 kg legumes, 8 kg potatoes, some clothes and bed linen, tools and household appliances per person. The house with its stock and furniture became the property of a Bukovina Székely family, similarly driven out from their faraway home in Andrásfalva. They only brought the painted chest for the trousseau, some clothes and the loom with them when they fled. The large house reflects the standard of living and economic status of the former Swabian owners in its layout and structure. The immigrant Germans brought their traditional fachwerk technique for construction in the 19th century. The first chamber is the parlour with a bed covered with homespun bed-linen from Bukovina. The second room is the kitchenand-living-room of the grandparents Ferenc Biszak and his wife The building is displayed as it appeared in 1959, when it was inhabited by the Székely family.
