Újkér In the mostly Catholic Újkér the Lutheran minority built a belfry because they could not afford to build a church. The ringing alerted the inhabitants in case of fire or oncoming danger The tower was built from brick, its roof was constructed from stone. Midday tolling was ordained in 1456 by Pope Callixtus III in his Prayer Bull. His aim was to call the Christians for prayer to celebrate victory against the Turks.
