The consecrated church and the regional unit are to be used by congregations for services and family events. Saint Martin Saint Martin was born in 316 AD at Savaria, present-day Szombathely. He was a former Roman legionary who converted to Christianity and became Bishop of Tour The altar piece is a copy of one in the church of Balatonudvari. It depicts Saint Martin in bishops vestments pray­ing in front of a Lady-altar with his tribute of a goose at his feet. According to tradition Martin hid in a goose-pen to avoid being elected bishop in 371. The geese betrayed him by cackling and he was duly elected. Saint Martin is still alive in folk tradition as the saying, "Who does not eat goose on Martins Day, will be hungry all year goes.
