VII-11 House, Őcsény In 1872 András Bálint and his brother-in-law, Pál Tóth renovated their mud-walled house and this is indicated by the coloured plas­ter-work and date on the front gable. The interior was also refurbished and the date can also be found on the tiled stove, the corner bench and the built-in cupboard in the parlour It is interesting that the parlour is • Single-child system Since the middle of the 19th century in the Protestant Ormánság and Sárköz of Southern Tranasdanubia it became customary for well-to­do peasants to have only one child. The aim was to preserve the fam­ilys land and wealth and not to divide among several heirs. However this failed to take into account the fact that this led to a drastic reduc­tion of manpower and new, poorer inhabitants had to move into the villages to till the soil. 104
