3. THE MUSEUM VILLAGE

Regarding the groundplan of the belfry, its construction, the manifold ways the beams are bound together, the cross-beams and diagonal beams, the methods of insertion — these all prove the existence of centuries-old architectural design and practise. Today, the tower may seem a rarity, and remind one of similar belfries in Transylvania, But there was a time when such belfries could be seen in many other regions of the country, as well as in Carpathian Ukraine and in Eastern Slovakia. What is a distinct feature of the building, is that this form of architecture remained existing in county Szatmár and that such towers are still functioning today. The mill The mill or as it is called, the „dry-mill", („szárazmalom") stands close to the church and used to be the property of the Calvinist church of Vámosoroszi (6).
