Vernacular Architekture in Vojvodina

The tanya (farm) which has the name .szállás (accomodation)" here, is characteristic^ of the Vajdaság. The following big chapter makes the reader acquainted with the .Architecture of the szállás-s". Géza TRIPOLSKY writes about the „Farms of the Tisza-region". The process of the formation of the farms is presented by two studies: Valéria BESZÉDES summarizes the stories of the farms in Subotica (Data of the formation of the farms in Szabadka) and Imre HARKAI writes about the farms in Topolya (Accomodations in Topolya). Béla DURÁNCI gives us a description of the farms of a village (The farms in Györgyén — the farm house and its surroundings). Finally, Géza TRIPOLSKY speaks about the „Shepherds buildings". Imre HARKAI gives us a résumé of the „Windmills in Vajdaság". Valéria BESZÉDES writes about only one windmill and denominates its parts (The windmill in Orom and the terminology related to it.) Attila BORDÁS presents us a specific peasant invention, the small-size wind grinder (The wind grinders of Feketics). Imre HARKAI offers us a survey about brick burning performed by peasants in his work titled „Rural brick burning" in the chapter .About masters and crafts". Valéria BESZÉDES writes about lime burning (Lime burning in Monostorszeg). Géza TRIPOLSKY familiarizes us with the „búbos" heating ovens in dwelling rooms, Valéria BESZÉDES „ with the last reed roof maker (The master of reed roofs). The last chapter reviews the plans, results and failures of the protection of vernacular architecture (The protection of the relics). The plan of the Open Air Museum which unfortunately has not been implemented so far must be emphasized (Valéria BESZÉDES — Gábor DÖMÖTÖR: The village museum in Palics). The bibliography selected by Imre HARKAI at the end of the book, although he did not aim at completeness, gives us a comprehensive survey of the works dealing with the vernacular architecture in the Vajdaság published from 1970 up to our present days in Jugoslavia.
