VÁROS ÉS FALU HATÁRÁN (Kiállítási katalógusok - Szentendre, Szabadtéri Néprajzi Múzeum, 2010)
The market-towns in Tokai region did not belong to the groups recorded by their distinct clothes; the clothes did not bear unique regional signs. Women's clothes soon became civic; in men's clothes the Hungarian woolen cloth suit and boots were characteristic until the 20th century. Erzsébet Kiss, local teacher, wrote about Mád in 1953—"There is no folk costume. The ancient blue woolen cloth, boots and the pleated skirts, bodices, bonnets, shoes and the generally used sleeveless frieze cape have long been in oblivion." The clothing in the market-towns was not the subject of research. In lack of collected objects and contemporary documents family photos are important sources. Ethnographers collected many photographs from photographers in the countryside after WWI —e.g., photos of people from Tokai, Olaszliszka, Tolcsva, Erdőbénye and Sátoraljaújhely dressed up in ceremonial clothes posing in studios from the collection of a photographer in Sátoraljaújhely at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries, in the 1910s. The photographs illustrate the social and ethnic versatility through the local costumes; the differences were expressed in the way people dressed. A hagyományosan farsangi időszakban rendezett felvonulásokat 1932-ben bemutatták a Tokaji Olaszliszkai lányok műtermi felvételen.
