PÉTER KORNISS Was born on the 4th August 1937 in Kolozsvár. He has been living in Budapest since 1949. In 1958 he began to work in the cooperative of photographers in Budapest. Between 1961 and 1991 he was employed by the women's weekly NŐK LAPJA: first as a junior clerk, later as a photo reporter and at last as an art editor. From 1991 to 1999 he was editor of picture material at the journal SZÍNHÁZ. Since 1999 he has been a free-lance photographer. He has exhibitions in galleries and museums of 16 countries. He has been publishing his photos in such important journals as GEO, National Geographic, Fortune, Time and Avenue. He is member of the advisory board of the World Press Photo in Amsterdam and of the W. Eugene Smith Foundation in the US. Since 1999 he has been member of the Hungarian Art Academy. Péter Korniss has published 15 books, among them: Elindultam világ útján... (I took the road of the world... His awards: 1975 - Balázs Béla award, 1983 - Artist of Merits, 1995 - Award for the Hungarian Art, 1999 - Kossuth Award, 2004 - Pulitzer Memorial Award. PÉTER KORNISS Wurde am 4. August 1937 in Kolozsvár geboren. Seit 1949 lebt er in Budapest. 1958 begann er bei der Fotografengenossenschaft von Budapest zu arbeiten. Zwischen 1961 und 1991 war er Mitarbeiter der Redaktion der Frauenzeitschrift NŐK LAPJA: zuerst als Praktikant, später als Fotoreporter, und zuletzt als Kunstredakteur. Zwischen 1991-1999 war er Bildredakteur der Zeitschrift SZÍNHÁZ. Ab 1999 ist er als freischaffender Fotograf tätig. Er hatte Ausstellungen in Galerien und Museen in 16 Ländern. Seine Bilder erschienen in den bedeutenden Zeitschriften der Welt. Seien hier nur einige aufgezählt: GEO, National Geographie, Fortune, Time, Avenue. Er ist Mitglied der Beratungskörperschaften des World Press Photo in Amsterdam und der W. Eugene Smith Foundation in Amerika. Seit 1999 ist er Mitglied der Ungarischen Kunstakademie.
