BÚZÁS MIKLÓS-VASS ERIKA: Gyimes népi építészete és lakáskultúrája a Szabadtéri Néprajzi Múzeum felmérő táborának tükrében

Miklós Búzás- Erika Vass VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIORS IN THE REGION GYIMES - REFLECTED BY THE DATA COLLECTING CAMP OF THE HUNGARIAN OPEN AIR MUSEUM This study offers a summary of the results gained in 2011 in the region Gyimes by the data collecting camp. The Hungarian Open Air Museum’s colleagues with the help of architecture students carried out building surveys, ethnographic and ethno botanic research here. We documented three layout plan systems in the region Gyimes. The first one is the archaic structure, where the baking oven is built inside the house. People arriving from Moldavia played a role in spreading this system. A refined version of this is the house type with side-room spreading under the influence of inhabitants coming from the region Csík. The third version, the two-roomed dwelling house with two separate entries is linked to the region Gyergyó and its spreading can be due to the establishing of the railway line. Elderly data suppliers told us that their ancestors had gained building ground by clearing of forest. The archaic lifestyle underwent major change at the turn of the 19th20th century due to the building of the railway and to timber processing based on logging. In the course of time, permanent residents replaced the temporary population coming from the highland pastures. Their main occupation was forestry and animal husbandry because of the cool climate. A system of alpine huts was based on this: from spring to autumn a part of the family moved to their hut built at a higher altitude in the mountains in a distance of 5-20 km from the dwelling house and the animals were kept in stables beside the hut. Their main working time was spent on haymaking for winter. In the second half of the article, we treat the subject how the use of space in the dwelling houses and the stock of objects changed with the changes in lifestyle. Finally, we discuss the processes of modernization taking place nowadays, like fitting a water pipeline. 33
