Zsolt Sári AN EXHIBITION AND ITS LESSONS FOR THE MUSEOLOGY House of the three girls! - Dollhouses An extraordinary temporary exhibition in the Skanzen In 2008 the Hungarian Open Air Museum joined the range of cultural programs at national level called "Renaissance Year 2008" with its project "Game-year - The Renaissance of the Game in the Skanzen". The organisation of a temporary exhibition was planned and carried out within the museum programs. Was it an experimentation of the profession, a funny gag, or simply, an exhibition about children for children? This write up presents the lessons drawn by the museology from this exhibition. Two parallel stories are told in the exhibition. The background of one of them is a collection of objects, which are the relics from a nursery between the two world wars. The museologist writes the story based on the objects and by using different documents. The other story is based on the material of a classical ethnographic collection, a lady's - today in grandmother age - reminiscences of her childhood, of which she has merely a few photographs. The museologist presents the objects on the basis of the story. Although they are museum objects, they are not shown like classical museum objects normally are: we did not lock them into showcases. Still, they are removed from their original space, and while suggesting their original interpretation, they appear in a museum context. The stories tell about three girls who have been living in the thirties and forties of the 20 t h century. The exhibition, as project, was organised through the efforts of a team. Basically three work groups contributed to the organisation of the exhibition: the museum group, the design group and the constructing group. They implemented the project method and worked in a multilayered structure. Based on the exhibition script this treatise presents the phases of the exhibition organisation, the methods of operation and interpretation.
