Benkő Andrea: A Guide to Petőfi Literary Museum (Budapest, 2009)

PETŐFI LITERARY MUSEUM Dear Visitor, April 2009 The aim of this brochure is to introduce the Károlyi Palace, an outstanding piece of our neoclassical architectural heritage as well as the structure and operation of the Petőfi Literary Museum. Located in a palace in the heart of the city, the role of the Petőfi Literary Museum is to nurture and conserve the national Hungarian literary heritage and tradition. Although its garden has century-old trees and its halls are imbued with memories long past, contemporary literature and sister arts can also find a home in here. In the European Union cultural diversity and national identity are equally important values to be maintained in each member states and literature as a mediator plays an important role in this process. The Petőfi Literary Museum alongside its permanent and temporary exhibitions organises more than two hundred events every year in addition to the numerous programs in museumpedagogy targeted at different audiences and age groups to promote informal and lifelong learning.
