did not have to resort to such trickery. It was printed in the Elbemühl Press in Vienna, which was also responsible for MA and other Hungarian-language publications. Kassák was open about his involvement: "I am prepared for the inevitable attacks on my principles and my person. In my part of the journal, I want to give the best of the current artistic work I have access to, as chosen by me, free from all influence, work that is at one with myself as artist and editor”.4 In Kassák’s case, one can comfortably dismiss any tendency to playful metamorphosis or any attempt to seek occasion to give vent to other aspects of himself. The Kassák of 2*2 did not want to hide or to distinguish himself from the editor and contributor of MA. His co-editor, Andor Németh, joined the MA circle in Vienna and be­came a contributor and translator for the journal.
