KÖZLEMÉNYEK - Müller Miklós—Elek Gábor: Bauer Ervin 1935-ös biológia-tankönyve és a könyv további sorsa

MÜLLER, M. - ELEK, G.: A Biology Textbook Edited by Ervin Bauer 89 lege teaching of biology in the USSR. Although cruel fate did not give him the satisfaction of seeing the results of his efforts, generations of students have benefited from the later volumes spawned by his first edition of General Biology (Eayop 1935b). As mentioned previously, it is not unlikely that this contribution had a greater impact on Soviet biology than his outstanding original works on theoretical biology. Of course this succession of textbooks was written in the spirit of modern biology, even though Lysenko had been mentioned already in the first edition. All this changed drastically after the August 1948 session of the Lenin Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VASkHNIL) from which Lysenko and his Creative Soviet Darwinism emerged victorious (anon 1949). The diverse editions of General Biology discussed here were no longer acceptable and so an entirely new set of biology texts had to be published (e.g. MaxoeKO et al. 1950; Bmozpadoea et al. 1951).
