The report shows the brilliant scientific accomplishments of Balogh and ends with the words: "We are definitely sure that it will be an important gain for our Faculty, if Professor Balogh who has an international reputation for his studies about cancer, can be brought here to be appointed as the Director of our Cancer Institute." Dean of Faculty of Medicine writes to Balogh The Senate of the University approved Balogh's appointment at Istanbul University on 23 June 1947, and the Council of Ministers on 28 June 1947. In the files opened for Balogh at the Istanbul University, the first letter written by the Dean of Faculty of Medicine at Istanbul University addressed to Balogh is dated 10 July 1947. As it can be seen in this letter, the Dean and Balogh have had some previous correspondence. In his letter in German, the Dean expresses his appreciation of Balogh's willingness to come to Turkey. After announcing that his appointment as the director of Cancer Institute was approved unanimously, he requests him to advise his approximate travel costs. He adds that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will assist him in the transportation of his books and other scientific materials to Turkey and that they look forward to seeing him as soon as possible. Balogh's reply Balogh writes a letter on 23 July 1947 to the Dean of Faculty of Medicine at Istanbul University and sends this letter via the Turkish Embassy in Budapest. He repeats his pleasure to work for Istanbul University. He hopes to start his journey in August, but he worries that he might have to face difficulties concerning the travel permission and formalities. He asks for their tolerance in case such difficulties arise. He might travel by plane from Geneva (Switzerland) or by ship from Naples (Italy). However, he mentions that he will appreciate if they could receive further information from the American Consulate in Turkey about the most appropriate route. He presently does not request the travel cost of 500 USD, but he will request if/when necessary. He also requests allocation for his young assistant, Mr. Géza Szabady at Istanbul University, at least for a trial period of one year to work with him. Balogh writes another letter to the Dean on 6 October 1947. This letter expresses the difficulties he had to face during the transportation of his scientific documents and materials to Turkey. He talks to many officials in Budapest, whose names he mentions in the letter and decides that the safest way would be to come by ship over the Danube. However, the ships sailing on this river upto Egyptian ports via Istanbul are presently at Braila in Romaina due to extremely low draft. And they will be able to arrive in Budapest only when rain starts, which means earliest at the end of October. Balogh wishes to accompany the transport of his scientific materials in person. He requests the assistance of Turkish authorities to get on board of one of these cargo vessel without any passenger as "ship doctor". He says that if the ship agency conditions him to make the whole trip until Egypt, he would accept this as well: "Because I'm also deeply interested in the cholera epidemic in Egypt.
