SUMMARY The inventory of the Pharmacy in Gyulafehérvár (Alba Julia) was carried out in the name of II. George Rákóczy, the Prince of Transsylvania in 28th December 1650. The inventory list has been preserved in the collections of the Hungarian Transsylvanián Museum Society, Kolozsvár, due to the generosity of the phaimacist and historician Dr. Ágoston Ötvös. The document belongs now — with the whole manuscript collection of the Transsylvanián Museum Society — to the State Archives of R ou mania. The inventory is of special importance due to its supposed connection with the XVIth century medical practice documented by the six volumes of the ,Ars medica" (Gyulafehérvár, cca 1570), written by Georg Lencsés, a possible organizer of the first phannacy of the prince there. The Ars medica and the inventory have been compiled in Latin and Hungarian language according to European standards and reflects the level of medical science and practice in Transsylvania in XVIth century. Hie inventory consists of a list containing pharmaceutical instruments, furniture and materia medica: 737 different positions of drugs, chemical substances etc. preserved in ca. 800 jars, liiere is only one drug of human origin, 29 drugs are of animal origin, 36 of mineral and 427 of plant origin. 238 positions are composita. The inventory comity refused to accept 259 positions. The total amount of the materia medica weightened during the inventory was 138.302,5 gr., i.e. about 140 kg.
