KISEBB KÖZLEMÉNYEK — ELŐADÁSOK - Derumsz, V. A.: Koponyatrepanáció a régi Lettországban, régészeti leletek alapján (orosz nyelven)

Summary We have investigated 3400 skulls of the ancient inhabitants of Latvia. Among them ten trepanations of the skull were revealed, eight of them successful. The most ancient and largest one dates from the end of the Mesolithic period. Five successful trepanations were carried out in the IX —XI11th centuries A. D. Two successful trepanations were carried out in the XIV —XVIth centuries A. D. The favourable outcome of these operations shows clearly the great immunobiological abilities of the connective tissues for repair processes in ancient men as well as the skill of the native healers -surgers.
