8. The letter of Prof. Dr. Zoltán Imre, Rector of the Medical University in Budapest to Prof. Dr. Erna Lesky, Director of the Medical Historical Institute of the University in Vienna Budapest, 11th December 1969. Dear Madame, Many thanks for your dear letter from 6. November. I am very sorry myself that I could not greet you as guest on the anniversary celebrations of our university. His magnificence, Mr. Zerbst, the rector presented me not only your best regards but the beautiful present, too, your contribution to which is surely significant. Allow me to express my thanks for it and regard it as a token of our friendship. Please, excuse me that I take this opportunity and disturb you with the Semmelweis matter but on the basis of our last personal conversation here in Budapest and our friendly relationship I take the liberty of putting forward this request. Since our last conversation, dr. Endre Réti, director of the Library of the University appealed to Dr. Jantsch in Vienna on behalf of the senate of our university. Dr. Jantsch let us assume that she has the copies of the documents in question in her possession. It is evident, however, that owing to discipline or any other grounds she hesitated to give us free run of them documents. This is why I turn to you, dear Madame and ask you to reason Dr. Jantsch into placing the copies of the documents at our disposal. Your moral support, dear Professor, will by all probability ease Dr. Jantsch's anxiety. We think that the interest expressed by the Hungarian Medical Historical Society and the Medical University and not that of private persons, will prove the scruples of Dr. Jantsch unjustified from a scientific point of view. I apologize one more for disturbing you in this question repeatedly. Yours truly Dr. Imre Zoltán Rector
