TANULMÁNYOK - Ormos Pál: Hódmezővásárhely egészségügyi fejlődése
cut off the town from the world outside. The hospital recovered from the wounds of the war in the 'twenties, mainly thanks to the work of its director, Antal Genersich, and head-physicians Márton Wirth, Zsigmond Szentkirályi and Pál Ormos. By 1929 new buildings and wings were added to the overcrowded hospital, and in 1932 the first and only institute in Hungary for curing osteotubercolosis was established there, which soon won country-wide fame. In the inter-war years in the field of public health Hódmezővásárhely in many respects surpassed the other similar towns of Hungary, while the county was among those best equipped with hospital beds. After World War II medical care greatly improved and step by step the system of prophylaxis was established in the town. At present Hódmezővásárhely can be said to be in a relatively good position compared to the country as a whole as regards public health, and in certain fields it is among the best.
