Zsoldos János: A' Frantziák Pápán, vagy is a' Pápai 1809—1810. Esztendőben* Polgári Ispotályok leírása, = Tudományos Gyűjtemény 1817. 11. 47—76. Summary János Zsoldos, first orderly physician of Veszprém County, before the publishing of Semmelweis* teaching (1847) and before the appearance of Holmes' study (1843) made his point of view in 1814 unmistakably clear: the midwifes should wash their hands before and after birthassistance in a soapy and alkaline solution. He published his regulations in his book titled Diaetetika in Győr (1814) for the first time and then in Pest (1818) a few years later. His regulations were so popular that they were written in verse by professor Gerzson Fodor in 1818 and they appeared in book-form in Sárospatak (1818). Author was succeeded newly to find that book in a single copy published in 1817 in which it is to read the regulations written in verse by the brother of János Zsoldos : Jacob, who was a physician. On the other hand János Zsoldos cured the French and Austrian invalids in Pápa (1809) by an antiseptic method as he reported his early results in 1817 in the journal "Scientific Collection" (Hung. Tudományos Gyűjtemény). It is an unrevealed fact yet, whether Semmelweis knew really the activity of János Zsoldos and his regulations. This is a task remaining for the further investigations.
