It was first published by Gusztáv Dirner [13]. Here Semmelweis is again bearded and shows a sudden ageing in contrast with the Marastoni picture. VIII. There is a variant of the above picture from 1863. The original photo is in the Semmelweis Medical Historical Museum. It was first reproduced by István Benedek with the approval of the Museum [14].
