SUMMARY Högyes (1847-1906) one of the great characters of Hungarian medical science, who worked up the dilutions method of vaccination against rabies, founded the Hungarian Pasteur-Institute. He was the first to follow a compli­cated reflex-sourse functionally and morphologically right through, the connection between the eye and internal ear. (Nerve-mechanism of the asso­ciated movements of the eyes.) Högyes became in 1874 the first honorary lecturer of experimental pathology in Hungary. He was the co-worker and later on the successor of Kálmán Balogh, wo made extensive researches in those days. He was professor of pathology and pharmacology in Kolozsvár in the years 1875-83 and later on professor of pathology in Budapest between 1883 and 1906. He was the editor for 17 years of the Medical Weekly, which is the most wide-spread Hungarian medical scientific review also at our days. He was from 1881 correspondent - later on from 1889 ordinary member of the Academy. The publication recalls the event and circumstances of the life of Högyes, which happened between 1870-1890.
