ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Der Verfasser macht uns, nach Beschreibung der Herkunft und der Jugendjahre von Josef Árkövy mit der Geschichte seiner Studien und Berufswahl bekannt, aus der die Zielbewusstheit hervorgeht, mit welcher er alle Hindernisse niederkämpfend Schritt für Schritt aus dem nichts die stomatologische Klinik gegründet hatte. Er ist einer der ersten und grössten Vorkämpfer der stomatologischen Idee, deren sämtliche Regungen schliesslich in seinen Händen zusammenliefen: er wird zum Vorsitzenden der ASI (Association Stomatologique Internationale) gewählt, sodann zum ständigen Ehrenpresidenten. Er is der erste ordentliche Universitätsprofessor der Stomatologie auf der ganzen Welt, auf dessen Klinik für liegende Kranke die erste stomatologische Abteilung gegründet wird. Der Zauber seines weltbekannten Namens steht auch heute noch 35 Jahre nach seinem Tode unverändert in vollem Glänze. Dies beweist, dass jedes zweite Jahr ein Arkövy-Gedächtniskongress veranstaltet wird. SUMMARY After describing the descent and youth of József Árkövy the author proceeds to deal with the story of the choice of profession and studies of Árkövy. These show clearly the resoluteness with which Árkövy strove to realize his great aim: the creation of the stomatological clinic, which he finally achieved graudally, practically from nothing. As one of the greatest and most outstanding propagators of the world-wide stomatological movement, Árkövy as elected president of the ASI (Association Stomatologique Internationale), of which he later became the honorary president for life. He is the first professor of stomatology at the university in the world and he founded the first in-patient department for stomatological patients at his clinic. His fame has not faded througout the world 45 years after his death. The Árkövy biannual Memorial Congress is devoted to his memory.
