Dr. IZSÁK SÁMUEL: Oroszhegyi Józsa doktor ismeretlen orvosi topográfiája: Erdély aranyvidéke orvosi szempontból
Oroszhegyi wrote but a few medical works. A number of reports published in contemporary dailies and periodicals discuss also medical and hygienic topics. The book entitled „Az ód és életdelejség közéleti értéke" (Pest, 1958) is only of medical historical interest, as a curiosity. A more interesting work is the one entitled Román élet (Rumanian Life) (Kolozsvár, 1942) which describes many features of the social and medical life in Rumania as Oroszhegyi saw it in the early 60-ies of the 19th century. An other work, the „Erdély aranyvidéke orvosi szempontból'' (The Gold-mining Area of Transsylvania from'the Medical Point of View) is still unpublished. This work of Oroszhegyi is discussed for the first time in Hungarian in this paper. The work has many outstanding features, the most important of which being the fact that the subject matter is the medical-hygienic description of a Transsylvanián industrial area in the period of 1859—1860. The strong criticism exersiced and the courageous support lent to the cause of the suffering workers prove that Oroszhegyi's thinking was democratic and progressive. Oroszhegyi is acknowledged as a prominent figure in medical history by the medical historians of the Rumanian and Hungarian Peoples' Democracies who work on a progressive scientific and ideological basis.
