Economy of prestige objects as ethnic identity praxis among Transylvanian Qábor Rom Among the so-called Gábor group of the Rom living in Transylvania prestige objects form a very special kind of cultural artefacts. These silver items are very highly estimated by the all the group members. This article analyses the ideologies and praxis connected to these objects. After introducing their special cultural logic, their local value aspects and social and economic functions will be elaborated. It is argued that these prestige objects are held to form by the group members symbols of ethnic identity, and their handling are evaluated with very specific care.
