During the research, the author was looking for the main points of the artist's self-portrait, and the function of his creative work in it. After that, the analysis will concentrate on the artist's social relations, the characteristics of his value system, its changes according to the growing of his self-esteem and artistic self-respect. As Magyar Lajos slowly became considered as a real artist by his social environment, his former activity turned to become art off play. At the same time his connection to the local community also changed profoundly. The second part of the essay attempts to interpret these aspects of the artist's work and life.
