TÍMEA TÖRŐ "Give her the means, if she asks for them!" Today's home-birth customs in Hungary Today's Hungarian home-birth customs are surveyed in the study. A delivery alternative is outlined on the basis of interviews with mothers who had babies at home, and with the help of participant observation. The home-birth alternative is totally different from the hospital system. How and why are these two systems different? What kind of cultural and social values are attributed to this process beyond biological significance of delivery? In the study we describe today's home-delivery and we look for answers to the motivation and value-oriented issues that concealed behind choosing the home-delivery alternative.
