1. PHASE A
2/a. CONSTANTINE II - CONSTANS - CONSTANTIUS II FROM A.D. 337 TO 341 After the death of CONSTANTINE I. from 9 September, 337 in the spirit of the division of 335, and in the decision corroborated by the testament, the three Augusti ruled in the following division: CONSTANTINE II: his country was Gaul CONSTANTIUS II: he ruled over the Eastern Provinces CONSTANS: he was the ruler of Italy and Illyricum. The sudden fall at the graphs of all the types of sites in the year 337 continued right until 340. Between the years 337-34 1 our Province was repeatedly the scene of various visits. Struggle for power among the Augusti developed into armed conflict in 340 between Constans and Constantine II. The latter one was trapped and murdered in Aquileia, thus from 340 onwards the sole master of the West was CONSTANS. The coins DIVUS CONSTANTINUS (Quadriga, Rev/Typ, Nr. @ ) were produced only by Gallic mints of TRE and LUG and by the Eastern mints with the exception of THE and HER. Of these we could trace only the coins of the mints of TRE and CON in our material. In this period all the mints produced only the GLORIA EXERCITUS Nr. (13) type (THENr. (14) ) for CONSTANTINE II, but in our material only the coins of SIS and CON can be found. Besides these only the mint of ROM was producing the type VIRTVS AVGVSTI Nr. (30) - which occurred in our Province as well. Besides the mint of THE type of GLORIA EXERCITUS Nr. (fi) was also issued by TRE for CONSTANS. In the same period the series SECURITAS REIPUB were produced by ROM, but in our material these coins are missing. At our sites the Nr. (13) coins of AQU, SIS, CON, CYZ and ANT were found. The type Nr. @ produced by the mint of ROM for CONSTANTIUS II can be found in our Province, whereas the products of the mints of Gaul and of ALE are missing. Between 337 and 339 the coins of the deceased Emperor as well as those of the three Augusti from the mint of CYZ are represented in our sites. 33
