HALL 7 - The early Migration period: the Huns and the Germanic peoples (c. 420-568 A.D.) (Ágnes B. Tóth)

91. Necklace of twisted gold strand with icicle pendants and necklace of garnets from Bakodpuszta. Earlier or mid-5th century 92. Boar headed gold pendant and gold finger-ring from Apahida. Second half of the 5th century probably lost his life in battle. The heart shaped mount found at Oros had once adorned a dagger hilt, no doubt the prized possession of a high-ranking noble. Another treasure of the Gepidic kings was found at Apahida in the late 19th century: two items, a gold finger-ring bearing a monogram and a boar headed pendant from a crown or a headdress (Fig. 92), are now in the collection of the Hungarian National Museum, while the other finds (two silver jugs, two gold rings, an onion-headed gold brooch, a bracelet, a large gold buckle inlaid with garnets, a small buckle and the gold ribbon mounts of a glass cup) are in the Historical Museum in Bucharest. A part of the gold jewellery from Mezőberény dates from the Hun period (the small bracelet, the pair of earrings, the cicada brooch and the pair of shoe buckles), while the other finds in this assemblage (the shield shaped belt mounts and the ornate plaques) come from the Avar period.
