This threat applied to his art, too. The hopes embodied in the "Szentendre programme" between 1935 and 1936: "we can come forward with a well-arranged exhibition," "our movement can come to fruition, it will even expand into the successor states, too," were not fulfilled. Two artists working in poverty and isolation, Vajda and Korniss, to cite Éva Korner, "could not radiate into their environment, and did not get any impulses from their surroundings".
