THE HUNGARIAN NATIONAL GALLERY IN 2002-2004
László Lakner. Several important artworks could be purchased with the support of the Ministry of National Heritage, including: Gyula Gulyás' coloured plaster Portrait of Hugó Scheiber (1980), Péter Turk's synthetic rosin/glass Flowers of Sadness (1994) and Tamás Kótai's painting Untitled I-IV (2002). Similarly valuable acquisitions were 23 drawings by Ilka Gedő (2nd part of 1940s). 2004 In this year the Old Hungarian Collection purchased Jakab János Stunder 's Portrait of the Painter József Czauczig (ca. 1800). The collection took over 7 works from the Museum of Fine Arts e.g. Eastern Hungarian painter: Enthroned Madonna with Child (ca. 1600), Austrian painter: St. John Nepomuk ( 18th century), Austrian Painter (follower of Martin Meytens): Female Portrait of Károlyi Family (18th century). Outstanding acqusitions of the Department of Painting were 4 portraits of Mihálkovics Family (1856) by Soma Orlay Petrich. The Department of Prints and Drawings purchased from the artists' estates 12 illustrations for Paul Claudel's mystery drama Annonce fait à Marie (1915-17) and 5 early aquarelles by Gyula Hincz (1926-31). The Contemporary Department puchased some outstanding works e.g. Ignác Kokas' Separation (2004), László Fehér 's Underground Passage (1978) and Tamás Lossonczy's Ail Round (2004). With the support of the Ministry of National Heritage were purchased Tamás Trombitás' mixed media sculpture Caput Mundi (1991-93), Ádám Kéri's electrographic works Powder XI-XIII (2003) and Gábor György Nagy's digital photos Waiting V-VI-VII (2003-2004).
