II. A Valkói „Új Élet" Mezőgazdasági Termelőszövetkezet története

Chapter 5 discusses the turning to enterprisal farming. The third phase of development of the Cooperative started on introduction of the new system of economic management in Hungary that involved substantial changes in the conditions of cooperative farming, rendered independent farming possible. There were substantial changes in the production pattern. In crop growing the tendency of specialized closed-system crop growing appeared. Cropping results were still influenced by weather though not fundamentally anymore. Crop growing was mechanized, chemical weed control and soil disinfection were widely employed by the Cooperative. Fertilizer utilization was considerably increased and the farm was provided with improved seeds. The livestock developed both in quantity and quality and the outputs of animal husbandry increased at a quick pace. With the increase in production the income of the Cooperative and of its members increased too. In 1972 the average income for a ten-hour working day amounted to 129,80 Forint, the yearly income of a working cooperative member to 38 378.- Forint. With the increased income of the members the common property increased as well. In 1973 it totalled 58 824 000 Forint. Chapter 6 presents the changes in the consciousness and living conditions of the cooperative members. The small-owner attitude, selfishness, individual interest etc. brought along into the Cooperative underwent considerable changes during the nearly 15 years of collective farming. The concept mine was replaced by the concept ours, socialist labour discipline was taking shape, the Cooperative Új Élet is considered by the members totally their own.
