In other words, his efforts aimed not only at improving his diocese in the moral sense, but also at raising the standards of living and farming. The letters give a good insight of how nationwide issues of economic change and agricultural improvement appeared in a territorial unit of church administration in a momentuous age, and what measures were taken to solve these issues by a wise bishop of vision and broad outlook.
